Lord Subramanian (Kartikeya) represents such a Man-of-Perfection who has discovered the supreme self. Lord Subrahmanya is an Avatara of Lord Siva.
To proclaim his infinite status he carries in his hand the Sakti or Velayudha (a sort of spear). The wielding of this instrument of annihilation symbolizes the destruction of all negative tendencies (Vasanas) through penetrating spiritual knowledge, which veil the Devine self.
